Three greenhouse plant nursery with its own well, parking area, pond, & display gardens on 3.4 acres zoned general agriculture. Please note: the nursery business of Weird Dude's Plant Zoo is NOT for sale. We are moving our business to South Florida. Only the real estate is for sale - but, it's pretty awesome!
The Nursery:
Three X S Smith hoophouses are 22 by 96, 22 by 64 & 22 by 64. All 3 houses have electricity & are heated by Modine propane fired heaters. The nursery has its own well & a large gravel parking area served by private Grower Lane. Two of the greenhouses have wooden benches for flats of plants & one has a misting area for propagation. The 3rd is open for taller stock. Thousands of plant species inhabit the gardens, from temperate perennials, shrubs & mature trees to rare & unusual plants & a few endangered species. Six & a half foot deep pond is approx. 75 feet across & perfect for floating or swimming on a hot summer afternoon. Space remains for field growing, additional greenhouse or cold frame space, or gardens. A 24 foot diameter (452 square feet) yurt with kitchen and full bath sits in the field to the left as you enter the parking lot. The yurt is approved by Augusta County Building Inspection as a fulltime residence and has been used as such by Debbie since March, 2011. The nursery was been operated as a mail order business, so the local market is wide open for whatever you would want to do, or use the greenhouses for serious hobby growing and collecting. Debbie is presently using a portion of one greenhouse as a growing area for her Staunton/Augusta Farmers Market operation.
The Community:
Only a mile from the Staunton City limits, grocery store & the new 262 loop bypass around Staunton & only 4 miles from downtown. Staunton is a growing city featuring the American Shakespeare Theatre, Frontier Culture Museum, Mary Baldwin College, many antique shops, restaurants, art & music. The surrounding area features abundant opportunities for hiking & other outdoor activities. This is rural living close to all the amenities of town with 4 distinct seasons & beautiful scenery.
Is this your special spot?
This is a special piece of ground where deer graze in midday, rabbits & other critters play, & they virtually never bother the thousands of ornamental plants. This places legacy is one of creative, imaginative & resourceful caretakers. We are moving our nursery & residence to Southwest Florida because of what we prefer to grow & the year-round warmth. If it never froze here, you could not drag us away. Therefore, we are looking for the right, special person(s) to care for & enhance what we & those before us have labored over with love.
Serious inquiries only. Property may be viewed by advance appointment. You may email us from this website at the top of this page or telephone Debbie at (540) 487-8173 or 885-3500 (Debbie's law office).
